The photo pretty much says it all. Craig Alexander overcame a five-minute deficit on the run at the Ironman 70.3 Boise on Saturday, beating Chris Lieto by just two seconds in a final 50-yard dash. Check out Crowie’s near-perfect, aligned form as he passes Lieto in this photo.
The Idaho Statesman has a recap of the race here as well as an incredible series of photos from the finish sprint here. It’s awesome to see such terrific sportsmanship from both competitors (and gratuitous Newton shoe shots). Crowie said it was one of the most excited races he’s ever been a part of.
Congrats to Crowie!

At the end of a race like this form makes a huge difference. That was a great race.
Wow…crowie does it again. He ran down Lieto who had a 13 minute lead at 70.3 Kona in May. What a runner.
If u stop to think about the effort that an IM 70.3 requires being a normal human, then u add the level of this elite guys have (that means swimming-cycling-running that speed) and finally u watch a close like this, taking a final sprint… no doubt u will agree that maybe people like Craig are made of something more than blood and flesh… maybe iron and very brave soul!! U inspire people Crowie!
